Women deserve respect

This is from BBC news. People against the war often say that imposing democracy on people is wrong and that they should come to it themselves. There is a resistance but often they don't have the way, the will is there but not the way. And this article is in Pakistan, it shows the power of what a moderate leader can do to affect his/her people for the good. When a dictator takes scripture literally there are consequences, scripture needs the wisdom of topology. Not a megalomaniac, who opresses people and uses the scripture to enforce their power.

--Pakistan's national assembly has voted to amend the country's strict Sharia laws on rape and adultery.
Until now rape cases were dealt with in Sharia courts. Victims had to have four male witnesses to the crime - if not they faced prosecution for adultery.
Now civil courts will be able to try rape cases, assuming the upper house and the president ratify the move.
The reform has been seen as a test of President Musharraf's stated commitment to a moderate form of Islam.
"It is a historic bill because it will give rights to women and help end excesses against them," Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz told parliament after the vote.
Religious parties boycotted the vote, saying the bill encouraged "free sex".
'Lewdness'
A woman is raped every two hours and gang-raped every eight hours in Pakistan, according to the country's independent Human Rights Commission.
The bill will turn Pakistan into a free-sex zone
MMA leader Maulana Fazlur Rahman said.
Rape victim's blog
Correspondents say these figures are probably an under-estimation as many rapes are not reported.

Well i don't consider Australia boring, and i guess it just intrinsically feels better to have a world where women aren't raped. Perhaps that is the natural law that we are beasts who commit such acts, but as rational human beings coming together in a society, we then choose our norms. And yes i agree, i think it comes down to freedom of information and what we are taught by our families and society, while we grow, that ends up defining what we accept as regular practice. I would say that yes it might be considered normal to extend your neck three inches, such as it is considered normal to wear a tie to work in Australia. But then i would say that if they have come to the decision by their own means to extend their neck or where a tie, then go for it. There will be pressure to conform, but not an absolute doctrine, but if it is forced upon you, like raping young women, who have no choice in the matter, then i would disagree. Australia isn't the perfect model of democracy which i espouse, but everyone in Australia is free to look at all sides of information and decide whether or not they want to raped, (it does happen in oz, but it is illegal). If you take triplets at birth, and place one in a family in Japan and one in a family in England and one in a society that condones rape. You will end up with three very different culturally inclined humans, biology aside. I use this example to show that a human has the potential to be anything. And we should be able to come such conclusions by our self. To the argument that i know better than other people or the 'right' way in espousing democracy, I would say; There will be culture differences on any scale in democratic societies, from town to town, state to state, and country to country. Europe is democratic, and still very different from Australia, which could be said to keep world from being boring. Then i take the principle of a human having limitless potential, and place them in a dictatorship, and then i see that potential being harmed. And that currently the way to maximize ones potential, exists undoubtedly in the democratic countries free from absolute oppression.

i'm sorry i didn't mean to imply that you thought that oz was boring, when i said that i don't find it boring. I was just trying to state that when a country becomes a democracy, they don't become a clone of Australia. There is a strong different cultural identity in many other democratic nations, that differ completely from Australia.

Dan,
Thanks.
I also, was posibly misunderstood by readers(& Moz), as being a advocate for "rape". What I meant was more on the lines of "ritual". I also beleive globalisation is good providing countries maintain their identity.

haha, that's hilarious ,i know you didn't mean rape. You can see how words get twisted pretty easy, and a capricious comment can come back and haunt you. I've learnt that while writing this blog, which is my first kind of public writing.
